Motorcycle School - How to Pass a Driver's License Test
The successful completion of a motorcycle training course will often mean that you don't need to take the driver's test. The course will teach how to spot other drivers, maintain a safe distance behind them, and to ride at a safe level of skill.
The training consists of both instructor-led classroom sessions and hands-on riding time. Be punctual. Late arrivals can disrupt the class schedule.
Classroom Instruction
The MSF Basic Rider Course is the perfect course for anyone who wishes to learn to ride a scooter or motorcycle. This class provides classroom instruction and actual motorcycle/scooter operator training in a controlled off-street environment. The BRC is for novices and can help you avoid the MVC road test. It teaches street strategies that include how to brake effectively, how to maneuver in tight situations, how you can move lanes, and how to move through without causing any dangers.
The five-hour ePackage 1 (eP1) can be completed either as a stand-alone program or as a prelude to the BRC's hands-on portion. The eCourse includes interactive lessons, video clips and graphics that will provide you with the basics of motorcycling. You could qualify for insurance discounts if you successfully complete the course.
The ePackage 1 must be completed in 30 days from the start date of your BRC course to earn a certificate and participate in the evaluation of riding skills. If the eCourse isn't completed, no refund will be given. Participants must have a valid driver's licence to take part in the BRC.
The CLASS program is a 2 day riding class which allows you to develop your riding skills in a safe and secure riding setting using a street legal scooter or motorcycle supplied by the school. This class is taught to you by MSF Certified instructors. The emphasis is on developing your confidence and skills as well as a better understanding of the operating system of your scooter or motorcycle. The class is comprised of instruction in the classroom, riding exercises and a riding-skills evaluation.
The class is based on the wisdom of three time AMA Superbike Champ Reg Pridmore and his hand selected team of instructors. Their ideas have been refined over the course of 50 years of riding, racing and teaching. The concepts are explained in a a straightforward manner to make them simple to grasp and apply. Highly recommended Reading is a confident, capable and safer rider.
Practice Range
You'll spend a significant portion of your training in a practice area that allows you to test and improve your riding abilities. The range is usually closed to traffic, so you can practice in a safe environment. Your RiderCoach will guide you through the basics of controlling of your bike and the procedures before sending you on the range. Your instructor will assess your skills at the conclusion of each session at the range. These are exercises that require limited space maneuvers and brakes. If you pass the riding skills assessment, you'll receive a BRC Road Test Waiver Completion Card.
You should bring your safety equipment to class. Your RiderCoach can provide helmets to students who don't already have one. But be sure to wear a DOT approved helmet. Wear long pants made of a non-flare fabric, full-fingered gloves, ankle-high boots or shoes, and eye protection.
You'll spend about five hours in a class learning about your motorcycle before you ride it on the range. Your instructor will teach you the basics of riding a motorbike, including turning, shifting and straight-line riding. You'll then move on to more complicated techniques like emergency braking, swerving and emergency brakes. The course will conclude with a final evaluation of your riding skills. You'll be awarded the certificate and could be eligible for a discount on motorcycles.
In many states, a motorcycle safety class is required in order to obtain a license. Contact your local DMV if a course or recommendation is required. You must enroll in an Motorcycle Safety Foundation approved program. This could be used to get a waiver of the road test required by the DMV.

Feedback from Instructors
"The instructors were very professional and knowledgeable. They genuinely care about their students, and it is evident. They will teach you all the basics that you need to know about riding a motorbike. This class is highly recommended to every rider, regardless of age or previous experience.
The instruction in the classroom was insightful and thought-provoking. The instructor feedback was the most memorable part of the riding instruction. They didn't just say "OK" They told you exactly what went wrong, like for instance, "You were looking down at the handlebars" or "You did not give it enough gas" or "Your wrists were bent" or "You shifted gear too early" or "You were not pushing down on the foot peg". Then they showed you how to fix it.
This kind of individual coaching is the kind of coaching you get in a high-quality training course and is what differentiates this class from many other classes. Some riders might find this harsh, but I believe it is necessary to give students the best chance at passing the test and riding safely.
I've taken other courses in the past and there was no personal feedback from the instructor. There's no reason for instructors to decide the degree to which a student is able to pass a course unless they are clearly threatening or hindering others in the group.
In my opinion, any motorsports school that doesn't provide personalized coaching is missing a crucial element of its curriculum and isn't worthy of the acclaim it receives in student reviews. Beginning with the Basic RiderCourse continuing with private lessons is the best way to get up and going quickly and safely. Learn from an experienced instructor, avoid bad habits and begin riding with confidence and skills that will last an entire lifetime. The majority of states do not require written and endorsement tests for riding licenses for students who have completed a specialized RiderCourse and some insurance companies offer discounts for those who have completed a course.
Final Exam
During the second half of the class, you'll learn road skills, including braking and accelerating and changing gears, turning and steering. This portion of the course lasts until you pass an evaluation of your riding skills. This portion of the course will determine whether you receive your motorcycle license road test waiver card. The test will cover the maneuvers that the DMV driver examiner will search for during your license test. The exam can be difficult and if you fail to pass, it's not the end of the world. Keep up the good work and do your best to pass next time.
If you pass the exam your instructor will issue you a certificate of completion which can be used to receive a discount on insurance for motorcycles. You will be a licensed motorcyclist and are able to legally operate your bike on public roads.
The MSF 3-wheel BRC is a research-based program that is action-oriented, has been designed to teach young 3-wheel motorcyclists (of all ages) the physical and mental skills they require to ride safely on the streets.
